Protein Merchandiser - 




Work location: 9001 de l’Acadie Blvd. Suite 200, Montreal, Quebec H4N 3H7

Status: Permanent, Full Time, 


The Protein Merchandiser works extensively with feed mills and re-sellers trading soybean meal, canola meal and DDGS as well as working closely with logistics in coordinating the transportation of the product. The Protein Merchandiser works in conjunction with the Merchandising Director on risk management. This position is also responsible for managing inventory levels, setting prices and working on strategic positions of the various products throughout the year.

Reporting to the Merchandising Director, your duties include:

  • Manage protein trading activities related to the transactions of purchasing and sales;
  • Lead the purchasing of the commodities for the various regions knowing replacement values from the various suppliers at all times;
  • Contact feed mills and re-sellers to sell the commodities;
  • Ensure constant monitoring of commodity market fluctuations;
  • Identify marketing opportunities working directly with both local team members and regional managers to maximize the networks market share and national revenues
  • Participate in strategic marketing calls discussing potential opportunities;
  • Promote positive and efficient relationships with our suppliers and customers;
  • Execute strategies for positioning, buying and selling proteins
  • Resolve issues and disputes with accounting, transportation, suppliers and buyers;
  • Work closely with Grain Marketing personnel (i.e., grain merchandisers, grain accounting and the hedge desk) in exchange of information;

  • You hold a bachelor’s or college degree in a related field (specialization in business or agriculture);
  • You have 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in this field;
  • You have acquired knowledge in agriculture commodities;
  • You have an acute client sensitivity with great negotiating skills, and have the capacity to develop and maintain productive relationships with suppliers and customers;
  • You’re recognized for your client focus and your analytic skills;
  • You are highly proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite;
  • You have knowledge of SmartSoft (asset)
  • This position requires some travel in Canada.
